Appendix A: Installing Voice Mail

Appendix A: Installing Voice Mail

Introduction

Overview

This section shows you how to install the Voice Mail application onto your computer using the ECS Set-up program. The ECS Set-up program is a very useful application, as it allows you to easily add, remove, and update all of your ECS applications. For the scope of this section, however, you will use it simply to install your Voice Mail application.

There are three different instances in which you would install the Voice Mail application:

An instance in which you would not need to install the application is if you just received your ECS system, as all of the applications you order with your system are already installed on the ECS computer system.

Terms

Customer Number

This is the number that ECS assigns to you. If you need supplies, technical support, or any other assistance, the person you talk to at ECS will ask you for this number. This makes it easier for them to understand your situation, and to decide how best to serve you.

Software

The actual applications that install on your computer. If 'Hardware' is the brain, then 'Software' is the thoughts that the brain is thinking.

Installing the Application

If you purchased a ECS computer and Voice Mail at the same time, the Voice Mail software is already properly installed. If you purchased Voice Mail after you received your ECS computer or you do not have a ECS computer, you will need to install the software on your computer.

Before you install Voice Mail, you must have the Business Manager program installed. Refer to the User's Guide for Business Manager for installation instructions, if necessary.

The Voice Mail application may come as a multiple disk set, or on a single disk, depending on the format. The disks must be installed in order from disk #1 to the last disk. Your 3 1/2" floppy disk drive may be either the A: drive or the B: drive on your computer. Not all computers are the same. Perform the following steps to install Voice Mail:

• Leave or exit any application you are currently running.

In Windows 95

• If you're using Windows 95, click on the Start button to display the Start menu.

• Click on the Programs option to display the Programs menu.

• Locate the ECS Setup Application option in the Programs menu, then click on it. The ECS Windows Application Setup window appears, similar to the one shown in the following figure:

If the application appears in the Application list, then click the OK button after you select the application.

• If the application does not appear in the list, then click the Add New button. You then choose which drive to install the application from by clicking either the Install from drive A option or the Install from drive B option. Once you choose, click OK.

• A message now asks you to insert the first install disk in the selected drive. Do so, then click the OK button.

If you do not close the disk drive after inserting the disk, an Advisory message asks you to close the disk drive. You then choose the Drive to install from again.

• The Install box appears, and displays the name of the application you are installing. Click the OK button to continue.

• Another Install box appears, showing the application name as well as the space required to install the application. The box also contains the entries Inbound Speeches and Outbound Speeches. These are sets of speeches used in the Inbound and Outbound Telenotification programs to advertise your Voice Mail services.

• You may choose to install the selected application and / or the speeches by clicking the check box to the left of the desired option. A check mark appears in the box of the selected item or items. When you finish selecting the options, click the OK button.

If for some reason you must stop the installation process, you can press the Esc key. A setup box appears, and you must confirm that you wish to discontinue installation. Clicking Yes stops the installation, while clicking No continues the installation

• The Installing Files message box displays, and the installation process begins.

• When disk #1 completes loading, a message on the screen tells you to insert installation disk #2. Remove the current disk from the drive, then place the next installation disk in the drive and click the OK button. The application continues to install. Continue this process until all of the disks in the set have been loaded.

• When the loading process is complete, you return to the install box. Notice that the application you installed now appears in the Application List.

• Click the Cancel button, and you return to your regular Windows display. The application is installed and ready to use.
