Application
An application is a program that you design, build, or otherwise modify so that it does what you want it to. We design programs, while you design applications.
Application Variant
This is a copy of the Outbound Telenotification application. The variant works exactly as the original application.
Attended Mode
In this mode, a person at your computer, called the attendant, is the first voice any respondent hears. The attendant waits while the computer dials the phone numbers, then, when someone picks up the phone, the attendant asks them if they would like to hear a message. If they say yes, the attendant starts the message playing. If they say no, the attendant says thank you and hangs up.

Configuration Box
A configuration box is a box that you open from a menu header, and that you use to set up basic elements of your application. In this program, you will use a configuration box to set up your phone lists.
Control Point
A Control Point appears as a small pink rectangle with a "C" on it. Control Points allow you to perform special functions. Its primary function is to chain to another CBSI Phone program. This means that you can access part of another program through the Outbound Telenotification system tree.

Detailed Information
A view of the system tree that displays not only the descriptions and relative ID numbers of the objects, but also the absolute ID numbers and some additional information for each object in the tree.
Detailed Tree Report
This report prints all of the controlling information for each object in the system tree. This includes the settings for each control, as well as entries in fields and scripts for ID and Main speeches. Remember that this is a Textual representation of the system tree.
Dialing List
This is a list of phone numbers that you create and your program calls.

A view of the system tree that displays all the objects in the tree, not just the ones that you have access to.
Grow Tree
To Grow the tree is to bring back the objects that the program hides when you Shrink the tree.
Highlight
To Highlight is to show that you intend to perform an operation on an item, perhaps a Cut or Copy, or edit. Highlighting is also called selecting when you choose an item in a menu or an object in the tree. Within Windows, an item or text is highlighted when it appears as light colored text on a dark background.
Icon
An Icon is a graphic representation of a program in Windows. The icon is typically composed of a small picture along with the name of the program below it.
Initial Prompt
This tree object appears as a small red open folder, located directly under the System Greeting. Normally, you record instructions for respondents using the system, onto this object, as well as a menu of options. This Tree Object is a permanent object in the tree.
Local Phone
The phone that is connected to your computer. It is this phone that you use to record your system speeches. Also, respondents use this phone number when calling into your system.
Menu Bar
This contains a list of menu headings. Clicking on a menu heading displays the menu corresponding to the selected menu heading. The menu options relate to the menu heading they fall under.
Object ID Number
A number used to identify tree objects in the tree. The ID number of an object is the combination of all touch tones a respondent would press to get to that object from the Initial Prompt.
On-Line Help
On-Line means that help is accessible at anytime in the program, unless youre already inside the Help function itself.
Parent
In the context of any CBSI phone program, a Parent object is one that has branches that descend from it. This means that a respondent will always go through a parent, whether there is a speech to hear or not, before they reach the child object.
Paste
To Paste is to move something from the Paste Buffer to the screen. Typically, you paste the item at the current cursor position or currently selected object.
Paste buffer
A temporary storage area for objects cut from the system tree. The paste buffer stores the objects so you can paste them into another part of the tree.
Place Holder
A special tree object that the program only creates when you add a Question Header, Prompt, or Control Point that has a multi-digit Relative Touch Tone Number. The system creates Place Holders as required, and you generally dont have to worry about them. You will only see Place Holders in the tree while using the "Full Expansion" viewing method.
Polite Unattended Mode
This mode asks respondents if they would like to hear a message, and does not play any message unless the respondents indicate by pressing a touch tone that they want to hear.
Program
In the Outbound Telenotification software manual, we are referring to Outbound Telenotification. The actual software that runs on your computer. You use the System Editor program to design your Outbound Telenotification application.
Program Group
A Program Group is a group of related programs in your Windows Program Manager. They will all be contained within a single smaller window in Program Manager.
Program Window
The Program Window is the area that a particular program appears in and controls.
Prompt
This tree object allows you to do a number of things, but its basic purpose is to prompt the respondent for a response. A Prompt commonly acts as a menu for the object options under it (i.e. branches coming from the Prompt branch). A Prompt appears as a small green open folder.
Prune
To Prune is to delete or remove an item or section from the system tree. Unlike the Cut function, the program does not place a copy in the Paste Buffer. Generally, Pruning is permanent.

Question Header
This tree object manages the question set. It moves the caller through the Questions, stores all the responses, and then plays a "Thank You/Good-bye" speech. It also allows you to import pre-recorded messages and export messages that you want to save to disk. It appears on the tree as a small blue folder with an "H" on it.
Reference Number
In Remote Access, this is the objects absolute ID number.
Remote Access
Remote Access means that you can access and retrieve messages from your system from any touch tone phone.
Respondent
The person who answers their phone and hears your message. Hopefully, they will leave you the information you need to contact them with more information about your services.
Schedule Grid
This is the area of the Application schedule in which you insert the applications to run. Each space in the grid represents one hour of run time, beginning with 6 A.M. and ending with 5 A.M.
Short-Cut Key
A Short-Cut Key is a single key or key combination that selects or performs an operation without using the mouse.
Shrink Tree
To Shrink the tree is to hide objects that are children of other objects. If you shrink a Question Header, the program will no longer display all the Questions under it. This function allows you to view more of the overall structure of the tree at once.
Speech
A verbal message, recorded on an object in this program. A Speech can be in a Question Header, Question or Prompt.
Standard Expansion
The default view of the tree that displays only the objects that you can access.

This mode presents the respondent with a message without asking them if they would like to hear it.
Summary Information
The default view of the tree that provides only the descriptions and relative ID numbers of the tree objects.
System
Your computer, while running the Outbound Telenotification program. Its a neat little technical term to impress your Branch Administrators, and its also more convenient than saying Your computer, while running the Outbound Telenotification program.
System Administrator
You, the Center Owner. You call the shots, decide what you want to advertise, decide when the system is operating, etc. This program is your domain. Your word is law here.
System Editor
The Outbound Telenotification System Editor allows you to modify the way that your Outbound Telenotification program works. This is where you design, build, and edit your Outbound Telenotification system.
System Greeting
This object appears in the tree in the upper left corner of the Work area (its that small blue rectangle with an "S" on it). This is the first object in the tree that respondents reach when they call into the system. The System Greeting usually contains a speech that welcomes the respondent to the system. This is a permanent object in the tree.
System Tree
When we say Tree or System Tree, were referring to the structure of your Outbound Telenotification program as it appears in the System Editor. As a tree has branches, so does the structure of your Outbound Telenotification program.
System Tree Report
This report prints the graphic image of the system tree, as it appears in the work area at the time of printing. Remember that this is a Graphical print out of the system tree.
Tool bar
This contains a list of menu headings. Clicking on a menu heading displays the menu corresponding to the selected menu heading. The menu options relate to the menu heading they fall under.

Tree Depth
This is simply the number of options under a Question Header or Prompt. The deeper a list of options is, the better the chances are that the respondent will not remember the listed options.
Tree Level
This is a measure of branch complexity in the system tree. The more levels a system tree has, the better the chances are that the respondent becomes lost.
Tree Objects
The basic units that appear in the tree, they may do everything from house commands and speeches to enabling functions and features. There are four types of tree objects you may use to make your system: Question Headers, Questions, Prompts, and Control Points. These four objects allow you to design your entire Outbound Telenotification system.
Trial-and-error Method
This is a method of learning in which you experiment with the thing you are learning. If you make a mistake, you correct it and learn from it.
Unattended Mode
