Advisory Message
An advisory message is a small box that appears over the program window to tell you something about what is happening. In some cases, advisory messages will tell you that an entry that you have made in a box is not suitable or is not allowed by the program.
Browse
To browse is to view client forms in sequence, one after the other. You can browse to find a particular clients information.
Business Manager
Business Manager is a program that allows you to control and monitor your phone applications. You must have Business Manager installed on your computer to run any of the phone application programs such as Computer Appointment Verification.
Button
A button is anything that appears raised in relation to the surface of the program window. Buttons are typically square or rectangular. You press a button when you click on it with the mouse.
Call Entry Form
The box containing the entry fields for the information needed to place a call for your client is the Call Entry form. The calls entered into the form make up the Calling List for the client.
Chaining
This is a feature that allows you to link one CBSI Phone application to another.
Calling List
The list of calls you are making for a client. This list includes the time and date of the appointment, and the name and phone number of the person with the appointment. The list is presented in order by appointment date, and can optionally be reordered by last name.
Client
The client is the person who is billed. This is usually the person for whom you are placing the calls.
Client Directory
This is a list of the clients for whom you are making calls. The Client Directory is the set of client forms that you have entered into the program.
Client Information Form
The window containing the entry fields for the information needed to conduct CAV business with a client.
Clipboard
The clipboard is a temporary storage area in your computers memory that Windows uses when you cut or paste something.
Closing Speech
The last part of the message that a party hears when CAV calls are made. The Closing Speech identifies the client for whom you are making the calls.
Copy
To copy is to make a duplicate of something. Within a Windows program, you would first select something to copy and then select the copy operation from a menu or with a Short Cut Key. The most common copy operation involves text within a letter or document. The copy is placed on the clipboard.
Customer Number
This is the number that CBSI assigns to you. If you need supplies, technical support, or any other assistance, the person you talk to at CBSI will ask you for this number. This makes it easier for them to understand your situation, and to decide how best to serve you.
Cursor
The cursor is the vertical, blinking bar that shows where new typing will appear on the window, screen or field.
Cut
To cut is to remove something from an area of the screen. Within a Windows program, you would first select something to cut and then select the cut operation from a menu or with a Short-cut Key. The most common cut operation involves text within a letter or document. A copy of the cut text is placed on the clipboard.
Database
A database is simply a collection of related material or information within your computers memory. This is where your program stores all of your client information.
Delete
To delete is to remove something and then discard it. Unlike cut, a copy is not placed on the clipboard. Generally, a delete is permanent.
Dialog Box
Dialog boxes always appear over the main window of a program. They ask you for additional information in order to continue your selected procedure or include buttons and check boxes to select additional processing options. They may be moved anywhere on the screen but they cannot be re-sized. You must respond to a dialog box before you can use any buttons or menus on the main window.
Dialing Prefix
This is a number or series of number you press before you dial the phone number. Some businesses have dialing prefixes you must enter to get an outside line.
Dialing Suffix
This is a number or series of numbers you press after you dial the phone number. Some businesses have dialing suffixes they use for call tracking and billing purposes.
Edit
To edit is to change the content of a form or document.
Entry Fields
Entry fields are the white boxes on the screen into which you enter the information about the client, or the areas in a window that you use to enter information.
Greeting Speech
A standard speech is played for a client when a personalized speech has not been recorded for that client. You may use the standard Greeting Speech weve recorded for you or you may record your own Greeting Speech. The Greeting Speech is recorded in the Greeting Speech option in the Settings menu.
Highlight
To highlight is to show that you intend to perform an operation on an item, perhaps a cut or copy. Highlighting is also called "selecting" when you are choosing an item in a menu. Within Windows, an item or text is highlighted when it is displayed as light colored text on a dark background.
Icon
An icon is a graphic representation of a program in Windows. The icon is typically composed of a small picture along with the name of the program below it.
List
A list provides information on many subjects that are related or similar, for example a list of called parties.
Monitor
The Monitor program is the part of the Business Manager program that you use to run your phone applications.
On-Line Help
On-line means that it is accessible from anywhere in the program, unless youre already inside the function itself.
Opening Speech
This is the speech you may use instead of the standard Greeting Speech when you need to record a specialized speech to begin the client's message. The Opening Speech should introduce and state the purpose of the call.
Paste
To paste is to move something from the clipboard to the screen. Typically, you will paste text at the current cursor position.
Personalized Speech
A personalized speech is simply a speech recorded specifically for a client. It may contain the client's name or contain information that pertains to that client. Personalized speeches are recorded in the Opening and Closing Speech sections of the Client Information form.
Phone Applications
These are the applications you use in conjunction with your phone and a voice/telephone card inside your computer. Callers call in to use some phone applications services, while you use other phone applications to dial out to listeners.
Phone Line
This is the actual line your system uses to call people. Each phone line has its own unique phone number to identify it, and is accessible through a phone jack.
Printer Driver
A printer driver is a translator between your computer and your printer. Almost every type of printer has a special printer driver.
Program Group
A program group is a group of related programs in your Windows Program Manager. They will all be contained within a single smaller window in Program Manager.
Program Window
The program window is the box that a particular program appears in and controls.
Report
Report is a general term for anything printed from a computer program.
Reports
The reports are the printed lists and schedules that the program can produce.
Smartmode
This is a feature of the program that aids in adding calls to the Calling List. The feature is designed to save you time by preventing you from having to retype information that can be taken from the previous call entry.
Save
To save is to add a newly completed or edited client form to the Client Directory. You must save a form before you can print reports based on that form.
Short-cut Key
A Short-cut Key is a single key or key combination that selects an operation without using the mouse.
Short-cut Key Combination
This is a combination of keys that, when pressed at the same time (or holding down one while pressing the other), will perform a command. Short-cut Key combinations are typically available for commonly used functions.
Software
The actual applications that install on your computer. If 'hardware' is the brain, then 'software' is the thoughts that the brain is thinking.
Standard Information Tone (SIT)
A standard information tone is three tones followed by an operator message.
Voice /Telephone Card
This is the card that goes in your computer. It allows your system to handle incoming and outgoing calls. It also is referred to as a VBX card.
