Appendix A: Installing Business Manager

Introduction

Overview

This section shows you how to install the Business Manager application onto your computer using the ECS Setup program. The ECS Setup program is a very useful application, as it allows you to easily add, remove, and update all of your ECS applications. For the scope of this section, however, you will use it simply to install your Business Manager application. For more information on the ECS Setup program, refer to the ECS Redbook.

There are three different instances in which you would install the Business Manager application:

An instance in which you would not need to install the application is if you just received your ECS system, as all of the applications you order with your system are already installed on the ECS computer system.

Terms

Customer Number

This is the number that ECS assigns to you. If you need supplies, technical support, or any other assistance, the person you talk to at ECS will ask you for this number. This makes it easier for them to understand your situation, and to decide how best to serve you.

Software

The actual applications that install on your computer. If 'Hardware' is the brain, then 'Software' is the thoughts that the brain is thinking.

Installing the Application

If you purchased a ECS computer and any telephone software application at the same time, the Business Manager software is already properly installed. If you purchased any telephone software application after you received your ECS computer or you do not have a ECS computer, you will need to install the Business Manager software on your computer.

The Business Manager application comes as a multiple disk set. The disks must be installed in order from disk #1 to the last disk. Your 3 1/2" floppy disk drive may be either the A: drive or the B: drive on your computer. Not all computers are the same. Perform the following steps to install Business Manager:

Leave or exit any application you are currently running.

In Windows 3.1

If you're using Windows 3.1, locate the ECS Setup Application icon in the ECS Business Applications group, then double click it. The ECS Windows Application Setup window appears, similar to the one shown below.

If for some reason you must stop the installation process, you can press the Esc key. A setup box appears, and you must confirm that you wish to discontinue installation. Clicking Yes stops the installation, while clicking No continues the installation.

The Installing Files message box displays, and the installation process begins.

When disk #1 completes loading, a message on the screen tells you to insert disk #2 and press any key to continue. If your Business Manager application came to you on only one disk, the program will not ask you to insert any more disks. Continue this process until you have loaded all of the disks in the set.

When the loading process is complete, you return to the install box. Click the Cancel button, and you return to your regular Windows display. The icon for Business Manager will now appear in your ECS Business Applications group window if you're using Windows 3.1 or in the ECS Business Applications list if you're using Windows 95. Then you may begin using the program.
